Last Friday I had a doctor appointment and had to do the glucose tolerance test. You have to drink this big glass of orange sugar liquid and then wait an hour and get your blood drawn. The purpose of the test is to make sure you aren't developing gestational diabetes. Well, I wasn't sure what to expect with this liquid. At one of my first appointments I had to get blood drawn, and while we were in the little waiting area there was a woman drinking the liquid, and she looked like she was about to die with every sip she took! Well, it wasn't that bad to me. It was just like a really sweet orange-ade, and I downed in in probably 1 minute (she said to drink it in 5 minutes or less). Then I met with the doctor and had my exam. I only gained .6 pounds since my last appointment, but that's ok. My belly is growing! Everything still looks good. The heartbeat is normal and my belly is growing like it's supposed to. I talked to the doctor about traveling during pregnancy and birth control (because we're not popping out another one right away!). After that, I only had to wait about 20 minutes until they took my blood. No news is good news, so if I don't get a phone call early this week, then my blood looks good. Oh, and they had to test for syphilis too! I guess it's state mandated that you have to get tested for it 2 times during the pregnancy. Just a hunch, but I'm guessing I don't have to worry about that one!
On Sunday we went to Mt. Pleasant, SC for a wedding of a co-worker of mine. They were on a tight budget so it was a small affair, but nice. However, it was HOT! The ceremony was outside, and I was sweating like crazy. For the first time during the pregnancy the heat really got to me. I was feeling ok during the ceremony and had some hors d'oeuvres and drank some water. Then Ryan and I were standing and talking and I just needed to sit down. I felt like if I kept standing I was going to get light headed. The reception was inside and it was air conditioned, however, people kept going outside to smoke or whatever and coming back, so the doors were constantly opening letting in the warm air. We sat for a while and I just did not feel good. We stayed for about 3 hours total and left around 4:45-5:00. I started felling a lot better in the air conditioned car.
Today we are visiting the third daycare on our list. Ryan works with a manager whose sister-in-law is the assistant director of the school. I told him we should try to get a discount! haha Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this school. I'm fairly confident that after this visit we will be able to make a decision and we can check another item on our list. Next up...choosing a pediatrician.
